The Indian workforce is over 487-million strong, the second largest after China. Of these, over 94% work in the unorganized sector.

The organised sector includes workers employed by the government, state-owned enterprises and private sector companies.

Indian Railways is the largest employer in India with 14 lakh employees and eighth biggest employer of the world.

Indian Armed Forces

Indian Armed Forces which has 13 lakh people in its active forces, is at ninth place in the world ranking.

India Post 

India Post is the government operated postal system and has over 4.66 lakh employees.

TCS

TCS has become the world's third largest employer of people in the technology sector, with over 3 lakh employees

State Bank of India

A public sector banking and financial services company, has over 2.22 lakh employees.

Infosys

Infosys is the second-largest India-based IT services company going by 2014 revenues and employs over 1.6 lakh people.

IBM India Private Limited

An Indian subsidiary of IBM, has over 1.5 lakh people on its rolls in India.

Wipro

IT consulting company has over 1.34 lakh employees. It was incorporated on December 29, 1945, in Mumbai by Azim Premji as 'Western India Vegetable Products Limited, later abbreviated to Wipro.

Hiring to rise by 7% in 2016

According to a recent TimesJobs survey, 2016 is going to be an optimistic year in terms of hiring activity.  The sun shines bright for job seekers in 2016, with hiring activity on a considerable rise of 7% across sectors. The latest TimesJobs.com Job Outlook 2016 surveyed over 1,614 employers across India and found out that nearly 60% of the surveyed organizations are looking at increasing their workforce. The report also highlights that IT, telecom and manufacturing will lead the hiring activity in the market. The survey suggests that nearly 25 per cent of respondent organizations predict high recruitment from IT and telecom. At the same time, 20 per cent of the respondents forecast that manufacturing will be the top employment generator. Over 17% organizations voted for infrastructure and 15% for healthcare.
